 MEDIEVAL INDIAN HISTORY 

Turkish Invasions 

♦The first muslim invasion was made in year  AD 712 by Mohammad Bin Qasim  

♦ The  first Turk invasion was done by Mahmud Gharni during AD 998 1030. He plundered the Somnath temple (Gujarat).

 ♦ The second Turk invasion took place during  1175-1206 by Mohammad Ghori

 Delhi Sultanate 

♦Delhi Sultanate (AD 1206-1526) consists of 5 dynasties 

1. Slave Dynasty (AD 1206-90) . 

Outbuddin Aibak was the founder of the slave dynasty. He got the title of Lakhbaksh' and began the construction of Qutub Minar. 

He died in year AD 1210 while playing polo

♦ Irutmish, a slave of Aibak, introduce Iqta system and silver tanka, copper jital coins. He also set up chahalgani (group of 40 nobles). 

He also shifted capital from Lahore to Delhi and completed construction of Qutub Minar. 

♦Razia Sultan, daughter of Iltutmish, was the firs and the only Muslim women ruler of India. 

♦Balban (1266) abolished chahalgani; established Diwani Arz (military department); and introduced siyda and paibos. He assumed the title of Zil-i-ilahi (shadow of God). Introduced Persian festival of Navroj.

2 Khilji Dynasty (AD 1290-1320) 

♦Jalaluddin Khilji founded the empire.

♦ Alauddin Khilji introduced Dagh (the branding of Honse) and Chehra (descriptive tole of soldiers)

♦ He brought market reforms and constructed Ala  Darwaza (entrance of Qutub Mlinac) and Hazar Sutun Palace.
