Indian National Congress (INC-1885)  

♦INC was formed in 1885 by AO Hume .

♦ It's first meeting was held at Bombay, presided over by WC. Banerjee and was attended by 72  delegates . 



♦Badruddin Tyabji was the first Muslim President of INC .

♦Annie Besant because the first woman president of INC 

♦ Sarojini Naidu was the first Indian woman president of INC. 

Partition of Bangal (1905)


♦ It was announced by Lord Curzon and took effect on 16th October, 1905 .

♦It divided Bangla into two parts (East and West Bengal ) , under the British policy of 'Divide and Rule' .

Swadeshi and Boycott (1905) 

♦ Partition of Bengal was followed by swadeshi and boycott Movement. 

♦ Foreign clothes were doycotted, Swadeshi schools and stores were opened all over the country . 

♦ Rabindranath tagore composed 'Amar sonar Bangla' song . 

Muslim League (1906) 

♦ It was formed in 1906 , at Dhaka , by Nawab Salimullah . 

Surat Split (1907) 

It took place in 1907 , during the Surat section of the Congress Presided by AC Mazumder . Here, INC got divided into two wings : Moderates and Extremists . 

♦ Moderate Leaders : Dada bhai naoroji , AO Hume ,  Gopal Krishna Gokhale , WC Banerjee etc.

♦ Extremist Leaders : Bal Gangadhar Tilak , Lala Lajpat Rai , Bipin Chandra pal and Aurobindo Ghosh .

Home Rule Movement (1916)  

♦ It was started by Bal Gangadhar Tilak on 28th April 1916 and Annie Besant ( in September , 1916).

♦ Its main aim was the the establishment of self government in India . 



Lucknow Pact (1916) 

♦ In 1916 , INC and Muslim League sought out their defferences at the Lucknow session of Congress . It was presided over by Ambika Charan Mazumder .

Rowlatt Act (1919)   

♦ It was was it during Viceroyalty of Lord Chelmsford . 

♦ It authorised the British government to arrest anyone and also imprisonment without trial . 

Jallianwala Bagh Massacr (1919) 

♦ It took place on 13th April, 1919 at 'Jallianwala Bagh'  at Amritsar 


♦ General O' Dyer (a British officer) open fired on peace crowd , who gathered to poster against the arrest of Dr. Saifuddin Kitchlu and Dr. Satyapal .
